Listen To This When You See No Forward Movement Toward Reconciliation

Estrangement makes you notice things you may not have paid attention to before. Like the young woman you pass on the sidewalk, talking to a lady who appears to be her mother. They look happy in each other’s company. You read the Facebook post in the estrangement support group about the mother who reconciled with her formerly estranged son, and you notice the emotion coming through the words on the screen. You’re happy for these people. And yet, somewhere in your heart of hearts you wish so much that it would happen for you, and a part of you fears it never will. You’ve been praying for some time, and it feels as if there’s no forward movement toward reconciling with your estranged son or daughter. Time slips through your fingers, and sometimes you feel panic at the thought of what you’re missing out on.
